BFA of LA is proud to announce the delivery of a new Ferrara Custom Pumper to the Lake Charles Fire Department. This truck pays tribute to McNeese State University with its striking blue and gold design.
More than just a new addition to the fleet, this apparatus symbolizes the department’s legacy of service with the university and a shared commitment to the Lake Charles Fire Department. The new apparatus will be housed at Lake Charles Fire Station 6 — the first-due company responsible for responding to emergencies at the university.
The story behind the truck’s design is a special one. The department’s former Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief, Richard Broussard— a proud McNeese alumnus — requested that the new apparatus carry the university’s colors as a lasting tribute upon his retirement. “This truck is more than just a piece of equipment,” said Kathleen Guillory, Administrative Assistant to Chief Carter. “It’s a symbol of our department’s strong ties to the university and the community we serve.”
The Lake Charles Fire Department covers approximately 50 square miles within the city and nearly 70 square miles in its extended district, protecting a diverse mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial developments, industrial facilities, and educational institutions. Its response needs require apparatus that are not only dependable and durable but also versatile enough to handle a wide range of emergencies — from structural fires and hazardous material incidents to rescues and medical calls.
With more than a century of service, the Lake Charles Fire Department remains dedicated to protecting its citizens while celebrating the traditions and institutions that make the community unique. The new McNeese-inspired apparatus is not only a valuable resource for emergency response, but also a powerful symbol of pride, heritage, and unity between the university and the fire department.
