An Experienced and Trusted Fire Apparatus Builder

While many of our customers know us as a dealer for KME, Braun, Osage, or Demers, Bulldog Fire & Emergency Apparatus began as a manufacturer. Today, we continue to produce our own line of fire apparatus on-site in our state-of-the-art facility. Bulldog Fire Apparatus Choices

Our History as a Fire Apparatus Manufacturer

In 1933, our business was established by Clarence Farrar. Farrar fire apparatus had a big following; the company made everything from pumpers to tankers to aerials. They were especially well-known for their unique wildland unit called the Brush Breaker, and a front mount pump specialty fire truck. Farrar was responsible for mostly all of the fire trucks in the New England region. They were also a national dealer that sold as far away as Texas. Some of the units produced during Farrar’s time are still in service over 30 years later, a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of these fire trucks.

In 1985, the company was purchased by Edward J. Murphy of EJ Murphy Co.  By this time, bigger manufacturers were coming into the fire industry and pushing out the small shops like Farrar. In order to survive, Murphy adapted and decided he would continue to produce only a few of the units: the brush breaker and tankers. The company also began to focus on custom, “boutique” work that departments wouldn’t find with a big manufacturer.

In 2005, Murphy sold the company to current owner, Jeffrey Mazza. Now operating under the Bulldog Fire & Emergency Apparatus name, we continue to produce the same brush breaker and tanker units the company has always been known for. We also offer exceptional custom engineering and fabrication work to meet our clients’ unique requests. While we occasionally sell our custom apparatus nationwide, we’ve found we are best able to serve our customers in the New England region, as we are close by for service when needed.

Our Custom Design and Build Process

Unlike some of the larger fire manufacturers that rely on producing the same unit over and over again to maintain efficiencies, Bulldog Fire & Emergency Apparatus is focused on custom built units. We can produce anything in galvanized steel, aluminum, stainless steel, or even plastic.  Absolutely everything is done in-house; nothing leaves our facility. We build on any commercial chassis and help you select the right type of chassis for your particular unit. All of our units meet NFPA and DOT standards.

As with any other emergency vehicle we sell, our process begins by understanding your department’s needs and budget. We help you outline the features you want and must have, and design a unit around those requirements. Prior to moving into production, we produce a set of specifications and drawings for you to approve or modify. We also cover the type of pump, how much water you want to carry, if you need the option for foam, what kind of equipment will be on-board, etc. We leave no stone unturned to ensure your Bulldog Fire Apparatus is exactly what you wanted.

A Strong Commitment to our Customers

At Bulldog Fire & Emergency Apparatus, we value a one-on-one relationship with our customers. We strongly promote face-to-face interaction and make it a point for you to know us on a personal level. You can visit our facility to see your unit in production as often as you’d like prior to delivery. We believe you will be more than impressed with our knowledgeable staff, experienced engineers and technicians, and state-of-the-art facility and equipment.

We offer a 1 year warranty on all of our custom fire trucks. If you require an extended warranty, we are happy to discuss that with you.

We believe we are only as good as the service we provide, so we work very hard to ensure you get exactly what you want the first time around. Our customers are our top priority and we hope we have a chance to serve you as one very soon!
